What is Soccer Savvy FC
At Soccer Savvy FC, our mission is to serve as a developmental tool—empowering players to evolve not just as athletes, but as intelligent, confident individuals. We view every session, every drill, and every conversation as an opportunity to reinforce growth on the field and beyond. Our purpose aligns with top-tier academy philosophies: cultivating technical excellence in a safe, supportive environment, while also nurturing character, leadership, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
We build players through the S.A.V.V.Y. framework:
Speed – cultivating explosive movement and sharp reactions.
Awareness – enabling players to understand space, teammates, and situational context.
Vision – teaching them to see the game 1-2 steps ahead.
Versatility – encouraging adaptability, both tactically and positionally.
Yes Mentality – inspiring the confidence to take risks, embrace learning, and push every day.
Soccer Savvy FC emphasizes not only the “how” of playing but the “why” behind each action. We coach decision-making, tactical understanding, and the mentality required to face real-game challenges. Our approach echoes the best in youth development: viewing the game holistically and preparing players to compete with intelligence, resilience, and strong values.
Ultimately, we aim to equip young athletes with the skills, mindset, and insight that transcend the pitch—fostering determination, self-awareness, and a lifelong love for the beautiful game. As our players grow, we’ll be proud to see them command the field and life with sharpness, agility, and a steadfast “Yes” mentality.
Coach Ed
Coach Ed Powers is fueled by coffee, soccer lore, and a borderline unhealthy love for the beautiful game. A Washington State kid with Ukrainian roots, he started kicking at 8, then made a big leap to Colorado in his senior year of high school. That led him to Grandview, and ultimately to Colorado Christian University where he competed as a D2 athlete.
After college, Europe called—Ed answered. He played across Ireland, England, Croatia, and Spain before a hip injury called it quits at 22. But rather than hang up the boots in defeat, he focused his energy on coaching. Today he’s trained hundreds in South Denver, helping each player sharpen not just their skills, but their soccer brains and values.
His coaching framework? S.A.V.V.Y.:
Speed – explosive reactions
Awareness – reading spaces and teammates
Vision – thinking one, two steps ahead
Versatility – playing smart and flexible
Yes Mentality – taking risks and embracing growth
Ed believes every session is more than drills—it’s a lesson in how and why the game works. He sees himself as a tool in a player’s journey, helping them unlock potential on and off the field. If you love soccer and learning, you’re in the right place.
Outside of coaching, Ed is a passionate fan of the game. He’s traveled across Europe to experience soccer at its highest level, attending 22 matches ranging from the UEFA Champions League and Europa League to the FA Cup, EFL Championship, and Bundesliga. As a die-hard Sheffield United supporter, there’s nothing like the energy of Bramall Lane and the spirit of the Blades. Up The Blades ⚔️⚔️⚔️
